Presentazione

Photograher Fred Bernard captures the vibrant colours and fascinating landscapes of the Canadian Arclic, The Yukon is a remote part of the world, inhabitated by First Nations people, where nature and stunning light create room for introspection

The Yukon territory sits at the extreme northwest of Canada, bordering Alaska.
Its size is similar to that of Metropolitan France, with a population density of
0.08 inhabitants per square kilometre. Its lattitude, asin most Arctic regions,
creates a scattering of light that is particular during the fall months. The highest
elevation reaches 5959m with the summit of Mount Logan. Weather is similar
to what one finds in the Alps from the end of November to the beginning of
December, but with shorter daylight hours. There are few roads and it is easy to
loose sight of reality. One squints, trying to focus on a landmark, but quickly
realizing that with the vastness of the terrain, there is no point. This is First
Nations land, settled for more than thousands of years.
I spent three weeks alone, searching for this northern light, so special to me,
that I can spend hours, days even, patiently waiting in the same place, for the
"moment" - a storm or a movement in the clouds that allow me to capture what
I imagined.
The introspection and the meditation, along with my lone wolf character,
heighten my senses, and I am more than ever in harmony with the environment.
To immerse myself in these dimensions, to feel the elements, to sense the weather
and predict what is coming next are the keys to life in the great Canadian north.
Abnegation is part of the chemistry required to survive.
I use Digital SLR Nikon cameras with wide lenses to shoot and share these
magical moments.
I am open to discussing my work with you and hope you enjoy seeing the Yukon
through my eyes.
